There are references to it in the Old and New Testament. The Nabateans, who built and inhabited this city, now in the country of Jordan, became rich as merchants traveled back and forth from east to west. Present day inhabitants are Bedouins who live nearby. Camels and donkeys are still seen and used for travel in and out of this rocky canyon. Fame has come to this “lost city” in the form of “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. I was privileged to visit Petra on a brief sojourn in Jordan while on a short excursion from Israel.
