Summer walks often take me up to the railroad tracks on the East Ridge of the Continental Divide. In minutes of walking south, the town disappears and there are views of the Highland Mountains. Aspens, rabbitbrush as well as massive boulders. It is part of the Boulder Batholith.
In a shady area where sunshine is blocked by one of these boulders, there is a tiny stream and alongside, many aspens grow and profuse wildflowers such as this bouquet of Indian paintbrush. More often, the bloom is a tomato red but the day I photographed these, the hue was a subtle pink and pale red.
