Kyoto in the fall is as spectacular as anyplace in the northeast United States. “Leaf Peekers” from all over Japan make an annual pilgrimage to see the crimson leaves of maple trees.
What I found especially exciting was that when on Buddhist temple grounds, monks would rake leaves with their bamboo rakes and gently replace, by hand, these rosy red jewels on top of brilliant green moss for an eye-popping effect.
