Botanical
(Of wild weeds and plants)
I don’t use the word “botanical” as a scientific term, but as a title for a group of paintings that are of wildflowers and other plants. In my work, this includes Indian paintbrush, rabbitbrush, cabbage, mushrooms, Mountain ash, thistle, and rosehips. The shapes and colors of these are attractive to me. In a series I displayed awhile back, “Unfolding”, I looked at cabbage as a plant that unfolds, as do many flowers. Unfolding is used in a literal as well as a symbolic sense. Our lives unfold, the plant exposes the inner side of itself slowly and imperceptibly on a daily basis.
Spiritually, we hope to grow by unfolding, exposing our inner selves, our weaknesses, so that we may grow and mature.
